The Function of Education

From its inception to the present the Advocacy Council has had an underlying concept of the promotion of Occult Education and understanding.  Currently the Council has mandated three various Educational programs that are operated in quite different manners and are made available without charge to every member of the groups which are affiliated with the Council. 

The very first program that was established by the Council was the Learning Annex which functions as a school operating under Council guidelines.  The current Director of Education is Mason Word who works with an Educational Board comprised of Instructors taken from among the community who offer courses on the various topics of Occult discipline.  The year is broken into quarters and students register for classes which are provided.  All instructors go through a confirmation process and the school functions under the direct supervision of the Council which sets policy, establishes guidelines for the operating of classes, and acts as a student resource for learning.  

The School for Intuitive Magick is a school that arose from a master’s class at the Annex on Intuitive Magick and eventually was given its own Charter to function as an independent school.  This school is Administered by a School Board which was elected from among the students with the President and Vice President of the Board holding voting seats on the Council.  The focus of the school is to provide educational courses in the more intuitive and less structured magical disciplines and oral traditions.  All aspects of the school are overseen by the School Board with the instructors being selected and managed by the Board of Education.   The current President and Vice President of the Board are Alf Kjetil Aas and Bradley Dodd.  Classes are offered to the students of the school and tend to be long running and a bit open ended. 

The Corvus Oculum:  Fellowship of Higher Learning is a one on one mentoring program that is designed to offer mentors to those students seeking learning in a more personally organized and one on one manner.  The Corvus Oculum is a newer program but the mentoring program has been a long term and deeply desired goal of the Council.  Mark Moody is the Program Director and Colton Jones is the Assistant Program Director and they work to create the right environment for the connection of students to mentors.  

Education is the one unifying concept that runs through the Council purpose and is viewed as a primary undertaking of its function.  In the Occult community the Council looks for opportunities to promote educational programs and to provide these free of charge.  As long as a student is willing to learn the Council is willing to provide the opportunities.
