Community Spotlight - The Occult Society - Written by Rx Kal'dia
The Occult Society was founded by Erica Nevermore in November of 2019, and today hosts almost a thousand members belonging to different religious and occult traditions. It started off in West Palm Beach, Florida, where small gatherings formed around classes Erica began as a resource for local beginners. After some time, she created the online group, where classes have taken on a new life and a significant online community has formed. Before the creation of TOS, Erica encountered a lot of division between different occult groups based on right hand path and left hand path leanings.
“I was hoping by forming a group to explain how everything interconnects, I could help ease the misunderstandings between those of us that work with the Infernal/Goetic and those that work with the other pantheons.” She says.
“We are not opposition.”
TOS remains with the intention of hosting an inclusive space where practitioners can interact and learn regardless of their path. Erica expresses strong opinions and unique ideals about the roles and relationships of spirits and gods.
“... by my beliefs, no matter if you work with Odin, or Lucifer, or Jehovah, or Kali it's all interconnected. There are no sides.”
The TOS community is still based entirely out of southern Florida. Social media is used to organize in-person meetups and events, as well as online classes still held by Erica herself. The Occult Society has hosted approximately seventy events and classes in the two years since its creation and Erica hopes to resume in-person gatherings once covid no longer poses a risk. Memes and virtual events are still perfectly safe, and The Occult Society remains an active and polite social space for south Floridans of the witching way.
